This towering statue, erected in 1904 commemorates the first president of the University, his tenure spanning more than 3 decades. With a background in teaching his knowledge and efforts ensured that the university began its long life as a respectable and enriching educational center, continuing to this day.

Philip Seymour Hoffman

Philip Seymour Hoffman was a famous actor who is known for his roles in films such as Magnolia and Mission Impossible 3 and The Master. The actor was born and grew up in Rochester to a family court judge mother, and it was int eh city that he first got into acting. Tyson Beckford

Tyson Beckford is well known as an American model who has also had bit parts in films and television. Having grown up in Rochester, Tyson went on to live in his mother’s home country of Jamaica before returning to the USA ad living in New York City. It was here that he began a modelling career for the likes of Ralph Lauren, finding fame by starring in music videos and eventually hosting hit reality show Make Me a Supermodel.

Chuck Mangione

Born in Rochester, Chuck Mangione is a jazz musician and flugelhorn player, having played in a range of bands such as Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers studied at the local Eastman School of Music before joining a range of jazz bands and finding fame for his work with Jazz band National Gallery, becoming well known not only nationally but internationally. On top of this, throughout the 1980’s Chuck would return to Rochester where he would host charity benefits at his former school of music, raising money for a range of charities, hospitals and relief efforts.
